Spagnum Speaks

First Impressions of this Realm

Upon my arrival in this realm, I was greeted with noise. This peculiar rushing sound of motorized chariots is ever-present, even on the outskirts of settlements. Near roads, the roar of motors and cacophony of horns drowns out even my thoughts. It's a wonder the inhabitants of this realm---Earth, as I believe they call it---don't go mad from the din. I first I thought they must find it appealing, but my investigations reveal this is not true. Earthlings retreat indoors or play music on little magic earmuffs to cocoon themselves in more pleasant sounds, and indeed show frustration at the constant racket. Nevertheless, these Earthlings travel even short distances in their iron conveyances, exposing themselves needlessly to the perils of traffic.

Perils, indeed. I had to resort to a levitation charm to avoid the onslaught of traffic. Travel by foot is next to impossible in most places, and there is not a beast of burden in sight. Nary an ass. Occasionally I saw a small, two-wheeled device, but these contraptions are frequently overwhelmed by the rush of iron wagons.

In the future, I shall obtain one of these motor vehicles and study what alchemy drives its engines. No doubt it offsets its inconveniences by causing minimal depletion of resources and damage to the environs.

For now, I bid thee adieu---I sense a rumbling in my tummy. Next, I shall investigate the delicacies of this place. Goodbye!
